150 PLUS / PAGE 126 / 1980 FASHION DESIGNERS ASSOCIATION of CANADA

The Association of Canadian Couturiers (see page 98) disbanded by late 1967. Montrealer Mary Stephenson recognized the void and organized the ready-to-wear designers and created the FDAC in 1971 to showcase their work. With the help of government funding the FDAC promoted Canadian fashion across Canada. There were 2 shows per year, that presented a select grouping from the collection of each of the designers involved, in a group runway presentation. By the late 1970’s the association was in full swing and the shows were put on in several Canadian cities each season.The Spring/Summer 1980 event(below) was their final gig.
