“Sadly, Canada does not offer many funding opportunities to its fashion community. This has to change. We want to be part of that advocacy to make this happen,” said President Vicky Milner in an article in WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) December 28,2015.
It’s top-of-the-mast-head primarily come from non-fashion backgrounds: Founding Director Brittney Kuczynski is a capital markets professional and Co-founder Susan Hart is an accomplished communications professional. President Vicky Milner is a distinguished entrepreneur with extensive experience in an array of industries including fashion retail, music, entertainment, and non-profit management. They are businesswomen and perhaps not being based in the fashion industry itself, unlike the majority of the past players in this arena, these three will find an angle that the others did not and make a go of it.
2016 will mark their third year in the running. The Fashion Design Student Award will be presented to an exceptional fashion design student who has recently graduated from a Canadian fashion design program.
The Image Maker Award will be presented to an outstanding Canadian fashion photographer or filmmaker who has made a significant impact within the Canadian fashion industry.
The International Canadian Designer of the Year Award will be presented to a Canadian designer who has achieved International success and brought attention to Canadian talent on the world stage.
