ALL ABOARD THE TRANSCULTURAL EXPRESS

What the mob did not expect clearly, was the startling briocolage of Thomas Tait’s FW14 collection. Tait, while never a difficult designer, not in terms certainly, of silhouette, or finish or wearability, has always been a diffident designer. Which is to say, he has always swerved the hype and the hysteria to concentrate better on refining his aesthetic to its fullest potential. He knows he’s a truly young designer and has been giving himself that great luxury of youth… Time. Time to get this rhythm down, time to get his line precisely right. As such he served one of the great surprises of the season, without straining his signatures. By smashing color and pattern together in that color-blocked tradition so beloved of French branché culture, Tait signaled his sustained blockbuster potential. And I love that he expresses that potential in such an unbothered way
